Students have been enjoying checking out books and reading by flashlight this week in the library. Independent reading plays a pivotal role in strengthening reading skills and comprehension abilities. It is one of the most effective ways for students to expand their vocabulary and become better readers. #alphareaders

🌟 Word of the Month: Gratitude 🌟
This month, we're focusing on the power of Gratitude! ✨
Gratitude isn't just about saying "thank you"—it's about recognizing the positive in our lives and appreciating the people, moments, and experiences that make us feel supported and happy. When we practice gratitude, we not only uplift ourselves but also create a kinder and more connected community. 💙
This month our students will take time to reflect on what they are thankful for—and they will be adding leaves to our "gratitude" tree to showcase what means the most to them. 🌻

Ms. Mandy's Multimedia classes have entered the Oklahoma Driving Challenge Contest. #drivingsafematters.
This challenge reinforces safe driving behaviors. The main goal of the Oklahoma Challenge is to increase teen traffic safety in Oklahoma. When young people are better drivers and passengers, there will be fewer injuries and deaths on our roads. Decreasing distracted driving and increasing seat belt use are our primary goals.
Contest runs through December 6th. There are daily prizes Monday-Friday, and at the end of the contest, the top 3 drivers will be awarded $750 each with an additional 10 winning $100.
Jaxson Armstrong has been awarded a daily prize and Ms. Mandy has been awarded a $50 Advisor award. Congratulations to them both! #alphasafety

Heavener High School Mock Election Empowers Students
Heavener High School recently hosted a mock election, providing students with valuable hands-on experience in the voting process. The event aimed to educate students about the importance of civic engagement and the steps involved in registering and voting.
During the mock election, students learned how to register to vote, a crucial step in the electoral process. Each participant received a voter ID card, symbolizing their active role in the democratic system. After completing their registration, students had the opportunity to cast their votes, experiencing firsthand what it’s like to participate in a real election.
This initiative not only equipped students with practical knowledge about voting but also sparked discussions about the significance of their voices in shaping their community and future. By engaging in this mock election, Heavener High students are better prepared to become informed voters in their upcoming adult lives.
