Brain Training was a blast today! Cross body training/crossing the mid-line is crucial for brain training because this activates both hemispheres of the brain, strengthening the connection between them and improving cognitive focus and learning. This bilateral activation strengthens the corpus callosum, the bridge between the brain hemispheres, leading to improved cognitive functions like learning and memory, coordination, and focus.

Our hearts are heavy today as we mourn the loss of a treasured member of our school family – Ms. Veronica Gabriel. We extend our deepest sympathy and support to her loved ones and friends.
Ms. Veronica Gabriel was our Migrant Director and has served over the past 20 years at Heavener Schools, ensuring our bilingual students have an advocate and their families have the support they need for student success.
To support our school community during this difficult time, counselors will be available as needed throughout the upcoming days and weeks. If your child would like to talk with someone about their experience and feelings of loss, or if you have concerns about how they are coping with grief, please contact the school to let us know. We have many caring professionals as part of our school family who can support and assist them.
Ms. Veronica’s funeral mass will be on Monday, April 7th, at 2 pm at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heavener. In order to allow students, family, and staff the opportunity to attend, Heavener Public Schools will be virtual on Monday, April 7th in honor of Ms. Veronica.
Heavener is a close-knit school community. In our school family, no one experiences pain or loss alone. Our students, parents, and staff take pride in caring for one another. Please continue to keep Ms. Veronica’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

HHS hosted a free ACT prep session today offering small group focused sessions to strengthen test taking skills as well as academic proficiency. Thank you to the teachers who provided this opportunity and shout out to those kiddos who signed up and took advantage of these sessions!
Brain Training made fun! Our students feel like they are just playing games, but in reality they're strengthening their cognitive skills. We have carefully chosen activities that target various cognitive functions, including logic & reasoning , working memory, focus, and auditory & visual processing speed. We believe in making learning fun!
Our district has launched a brand new Brain Training Program offering weekly cognitive training exercises integrating "Evidence Based Reading Strategies" in connection with "Cognitive Brain Training Exercises" to enhance reading skills. This is a collaborative effort with Tambra Scroggins( Reading Specialist), Cheyann Kelly & April West (Paraprofessionals), Candance Scott (School Counselor), Keli Cartwright (Elementary Principal), Ed Wilson (District Superintendent), Kim Seaton ( From the Heroes Literacy Team -Oklahoma State Department of Education :CALT), Mackenzie Luman (Speech & Language Therapist).
Brain training and has been scientifically proven to benefit individuals of all ages enhancing cognitive function. We are beyond excited to be offering this program to our students!!!

Shout out to our Wolves, even though we are virtual today due to a water issue our special Olympic volunteers still showed up to help! Parents this is a special group of students their dedication is awesome. Heavener is one of just 25 districts statewide selected for this multi-year initiative, which will enhance literacy instruction from Early Childhood through High School and extend support to children from birth to age 3 through a partnership with the Heavener Public Library. High School Gifted & Talented students spent an exciting day in Northwest Arkansas, combining fun and learning. We explored Osage Park's 12-acre wetland ecosystem, enjoying its scenic walking trails and pickleball courts. We also visited Crystal Bridges Art Museum, immersing ourselves in incredible artwork. It was a fantastic day full of adventure and discovery.
