Clark Summers, 32 years old at the time and working in Wilburton, Oklahoma “rigging up on an oil rig.” He arrived at the rig site at 8:00 in the morning and started work in their trailer getting tools together and then went to the rig floor around 10 in the morning. “Everyone was acting kind of odd,” said Summers. When he asked what was wrong, the driller said a plane had hit a building in New York City, and he then went to the tool pushers trailer and they watched it on TV. He was mad, sad, and in disbelief; wondering what was next and who would do this to our country. When asked how the nation reacted for the first few days after 9/11 he said, “People stopped traveling, stayed home, the economy went down, no one was spending money. The gas stations in town started raising their prices up and people thought we were having a gas shortage.” He also believes that the nation has gotten safer since then to an extent that things this large will have trouble happening again.
