Set the Record Straight Review
By Seth Anderson
Billy Ray Cyrus has recently released his first album since his album from 2012 "Change My Mind". Set the Record Straight is a 15 song album that includes remixes of some of his classic songs like “Trail of Tears”, “I Want My Mullet Back”, and of course a few different takes on “Achy Breaky Heart”. Besides remakes of his own songs, Billy also covers some of favorite country songs such as “Folsom Prison Blues”, and “Tulsa Time” with a new pop beat, just to name a couple. He also got the chance to collaborate with many artists including Joe Perry, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Bryan Adams, and Miley Cyrus. In his Song “The Freebird Fell”, Billy gets to pay tribute to one of his greatest influences ever-Ronnie Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He is quoted as saying “ In this being the 40 year anniversary of that tragic crash that impacted me and so many other fans around the world, I wrote and recorded “The Freebird Fell." Billy gets to show off his musical diversity in his three different versions of “Achy Breaky Heart” with a 25th year edition version, a pop remix, and even a Spanglish version where he calls upon artist Jencarlos Canela to help him in this Spanish-speaking remix. In conclusion, "Set the Record Straight" is one of his best albums to date. It has a balanced mix of some of his classics and some great country classics and Cyrus seems more happy and free with his music than he has in a long time.
