Soccer Season Preview
With soccer season in full swing, the coaches and teammates are fired up for this season, Coach Baker has great expectations for the season, Oklahoma just created a new classification in soccer this year and that has caused them to move into a whole new district with a lot of teams that we usually don’t play against this change will match us up against schools that are closer to our size and should give us a better opportunity to make the playoffs and possibly host a game here at Heavener. The soccer team is preparing a little differently this year, they are looking at implementing a new formation this season a (4-4-2 instead of a 4-4-3) for both teams. The girl’s team will run a “flat” midfield to help on the back-end and the boy’s team will run a “diamond” midfield to help in attacking, “The change should make us stronger defensively and help to strengthen our play in the middle field” coach Baker states. The catch is that many players will be in positions that they may not be used to playing and might take a while to adjust.
Senior Michael Gomez was asked his expectations for the season and he says “I expect the season to go very well for us we have a great group of guys that work hard, I always have hope in my team, no matter what having confidence and trusting your team is a big factor in soccer, I’m more than positive we are all going to show out this season” his thoughts on his last year of high school soccer is to go out there and represent his home town to the best that him and his team can After that he will focus on his college soccer program. Michael has been playing soccer since the age of 4.
